First World Summit Award Mobile takes place in Abu Dhabi |

This year, a special World Summit Award spin off for mobile contents (WSA-mobile) will take place for the first time with the Winner’s Gala Event in Abu Dhabi the upcoming December. Prof. Peter A. Bruck as the chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Summit Award states: “After the successful history of the WSA, we decided to create a special award just for mobile technologies.”
The WSA-mobile is a global initiative to select and promote the world’s top mobile contents and innovative applications. A jury of international experts nominates the best projects from his/her respective country. The president of the IPv6 Forum – Mr Latif Ladid – acts as the national expert for innovative mobile projects in Luxembourg.
The national pre-selections have already started and will continue until September 15th. The WSA-mobile is a unique opportunity to create networks and proceed in the development of helpful and innovative mobile contents.

John Chambers outlines Cisco’s commitment to IPv6 |
With only 6% of the remaining number of IPv4 addresses available in the global pool, interest in how to effectively migrate networks to IPv6 is steadily growing. Last Friday June 11, John Chambers addressed the third annual
Google IPv6 Implementation conference, which was opened by Vint Cerf in Mountain View. John outlined Cisco’s longstanding commitment to helping customers address this issue and build effective plans for migration.
In 2007, Cisco Distinguished Engineer Mark Townsley first issued a challenge to this IPv6 community to eat its own dog food in its own conferences and so, appropriately enough John’s video contribution to the conference was indeed streamed over IPv6:

Clearly IPv4 exhaust is on the horizon, but Cisco sees IPv4 and IPv6 coexisting for quite some time. There are many variables involved, on the social, geographical, and even regional level that are affecting the speed with which customers are approaching the question.
IPv6 is a new IP protocol mandated by the federal government for compliance across all organizations, It is designed to replace IPv4, the Internet protocol currently deployed and used most extensively throughout the world.
The benefits of IPv6 include:
- Simplified packet header for routing efficiency
- Mandatory IP Security (IPSec) implementation for all IPv6 devices
- Improved support for mobile IP and mobile computing devices
- Enhanced multicast support with increased addresses and efficient mechanisms
Cisco has been actively engaged in running IPv6 deployment councils for the last 2 years to provide ‘customer to customer’ forums to encourage discussion about the issue and to nurture an environment where customers can share their ideas and experiences.

Tokyo-Luxembourg-Boston - June 22, 2009 - The IPv6 Forum and
its sub-organization, the IPv6 Ready Logo Committee, today announced
the introduction of a new IPv6 Enabled Logo Program aimed at testing
and validating Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for IPv6 readiness
and adoption.

The IPv6 Forum IPv6 Ready Logo program
has clearly demonstrated the widespread support of IPv6 in products.
The impressive list of vendors indicates the number of potential IPv6
users ready to use IPv6 and represents a real incentive for ISPs to
enable IPv6 access for their customers.
The IPv6 Forum has been tracking the
adoption of IPv6 at ISPs and recognized the need for a quality assurance
logo program for ISPs. The creation of this new logo program will support
IPv6 deployment in networks at ISPs with the goal of sustaining quality
IPv6 services.

The IPv6 Working Group of the Federal CIO Council has published a draft for review and comment. This document is intended for chief information officers (CIOs), chief architects, and other individuals in federal agencies who are responsible for exploiting

ARIN Board Advises Internet Community on Migration to IPv6

ARIN and the other Regional Internet Registries have distributed Internet Protocol version 6, IPv6, alongside IPv4 since 1999. To date, ARIN has issued both protocol versions in tandem and has not advocated one over the other. ARIN has closely monitored trends in demand and distribution for both protocol versions with the understanding that the IPv4 available resource pool would continue to diminish.
The available IPv4 resource pool has now been reduced to the point that ARIN is compelled to advise the Internet community that migration to IPv6 is necessary for any applications that require ongoing availability from ARIN of contiguous IP number resources.
On 7 May 2007, the ARIN Board of Trustees passed the following resolution:
RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF ARIN ON INTERNET PROTOCOL NUMBERING RESOURCE AVAILABILITY
WHEREAS, community access to Internet Protocol (IP) numbering Resources has proved essential to the successful growth of the Internet; and,
WHEREAS, ongoing community access to Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) numbering resources can not be assured indefinitely; and,
WHEREAS, Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) numbering resources are available and suitable for many Internet applications,
BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board of Trustees hereby advises the Internet community that migration to IPv6 numbering resources is necessary for any applications which require ongoing availability from ARIN of contiguous IP numbering resources; and,
BE IT ORDERED, that this Board of Trustees hereby directs ARIN staff to take any and all measures necessary to assure veracity of applications to ARIN for IPv4 numbering resources; and,
BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board of Trustees hereby requests the ARIN Advisory Council to consider Internet Numbering Resource Policy changes advisable to encourage migration to IPv6 numbering resources where possible.
Implementation of this resolution will include both internal and external components. Internally, ARIN will review its resource request procedures and continue to provide policy experience reports to the Advisory Council. Externally, ARIN will send progress announcements to the ARIN community as well as the wider technical audience, government agencies, and media outlets. ARIN will produce new documentation, from basic introductory fact sheets to FAQs on how this resolution will affect users in the region. ARIN will focus on IPv6 in many of its general outreach activities, such as speaking engagements, trade shows, and technical community meetings.

An example of MetroNet6 is as follows. In a U.S. city or town the State Police, Fireman, Hospital 911 Personnel, Local Police, and any other required Local Authorities would have Handheld Devices that would have their own Metropolitan Network (MetroNet6) for Voice, Video, Graphics, Intelligence, Medical, and other forms of data through multimedia communications 24x7x365. This MetroNet6 would emulate a Command Control Center, using Moonv6 www.moonv6.org, over the Internet to an emulated National Homeland Security Office securely for communications updates. The MetroNet6 would support both wireless and wireline technology as the physical medium for communications and the integration of wireless and wireline so either can be used on the MetroNet6. The MetroNet6 would support the ability for a command center to be established in an Ad Hoc manner to communicate with the MetroNet6 Homeland Security force and emulatedNational Homeland Security Office using wireless or wireline communications. In addition, the MetroNet6 over time should be able to add additional Ad Hoc Sub-Networks in as required such as the emulation National Guard, Air Command, or other U.S. Agencies that must connect to the MetroNet6 during a 911 disaster.
